By Chief  Admin.

The Malawi Flames were held to a 2–2 draw by Liberia in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match played on 08 September 2025.Malawi looked the stronger side from the start, controlling most of the game with 62% possession compared to Liberia’s 38%,As the Flames created several chances, registering 12 shots with 6 on target, but were frustrated by Liberia’s goalkeeper who made 4 important saves.

Liberia, however, proved dangerous on the counterattack. Despite managing only 4 shots in the whole game, they were clinical enough to score twice and keep Malawi under pressure. The match was physical, with the referee showing 5 yellow cards 2 to Malawi and 3 to Liberia. Malawi also dominated set pieces, winning 16 free kicks, 4 corner kicks, and 27 throw-ins.

Both sides fought hard until the final whistle, but neither could find the winning goal. Malawi showed attacking strength with 148 total attacks and 113 dangerous moves, while Liberia relied on resilience and sharp finishing.

The result leaves Malawi with positives to take forward, but also lessons to learn as they continue their journey in the World Cup qualifiers as the Team will now turn their attention to two crucial  games on 6 October  against Equatorial Guinea and on 13 October with São Tomé. Comfortably on top of Group H, Tunisia is leading with 22 point, seconded by Namibia 12 points ,Liberia 11 points, Malawi 10 points Equatorial Guinea  10 points São Tomé  0 points

CHAKWERA'S CAMPAIGN PITCH:why Believe New Promises Now?

Speaking in Eastern Region MW
H.E Dr Lazarus Chakwera-President of Republic of Malawi and MCP Sept Candidate

Malawi's President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, has started his party's campaign in the Eastern Region. He asked people to support him again so he can continue the development work his government began five years ago.

Speaking in Mangochi, President Chakwera listed his government's key achievements. He said his focus has been on uniting the country, social progress, and building infrastructure (like roads and buildings).

He thanked the Eastern Region for voting for him in 2020. He said his government kept its promises by:

● Giving over K11 billion to 19,000 small business owners.

●  Supplying farm materials to over 600,000 farmers.

●Giving relief aid to more than 300,000 households in the region.

Chakwera also said his government increased the money given to each local area (Constituency Development Fund - CDF) to K220 million to speed up local projects.

He explained his party's main goals: ensuring enough food for everyone, creating jobs and wealth, improving how the country is run, and making public services better.

A senior party official, Richard Chimwendo Banda, praised the President. He listed new developments in the Eastern Region, including council offices, roads, a health center, and a stadium.

This Mangochi event follows other campaign launches in Lilongwe, Mzimba, and Ngabu.
