JEHOVAHS WITNESSES Now Free to Decide on Main Blood Components- World Headquarters, said

Jehovah’s Witnesses have announced a change in their position on the four main components of blood, saying individual members can now decide, according to their personal conscience, whether to accept or donate red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma or platelets.

The announcement was made on Friday by the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The decision also allows each Witness to determine whether to donate blood specifically for the purpose of providing components or fractions for another person.

However, the religious group's longstanding position against whole-blood transfusions remains unchanged.

Jehovah’s Witnesses base their refusal of whole-blood transfusions on the biblical command to “abstain from blood,” as referenced in Acts 15:20.

“Blood remains sacred to Jehovah’s Witnesses, who continue to regard life and blood as precious gifts from God,” Paul Gillies, an international spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses at the organisation's World Headquarters, said.

Gillies added that medical decisions involving blood components are now considered a matter of personal conscience between individual Witnesses and their God, Jehovah.

The latest adjustment follows previous changes concerning blood fractions and the use of a person's own blood during medical procedures. According to the organisation, because the Bible does not specifically address such medical decisions, individual Witnesses are responsible for making their own choices.

The organisation said this reasoning has now been extended to the four main components of blood.

Jehovah’s Witnesses also said they continue to seek medical treatment and do not practice faith healing. Members are encouraged to seek qualified medical professionals who can provide appropriate treatment while respecting their religious beliefs and personal wishes.

Gillies said congregations would not interfere in decisions that are considered matters of individual conscience.

“Congregations do not involve themselves in personal decisions that rest with the individual conscience. We will continue to respect and support the personal decisions of our fellow believers,” he said.

He also expressed appreciation for medical professionals who provide treatment while respecting the wishes and beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses regarding blood.

Jehovah’s Witnesses have more than nine million members worldwide, with congregations in more than 200 countries and territories.

EGENCO DISMISSES MK32.3 BILLION DIESEL GENERATOR COST CLAIMS

The Electricity Generation Company(EGENCO), has dismissed reports that it is hiring external diesel generators and spending MK32.3 billion kwacha every month to operate them, describing the claims as misleading and based on flawed calculations.

According to the Press release dated 7th September 2026, says the diesel generators in question are its own units located at Mapanga, Kanengo,Lilongwe A and Lubinga, and that it has no plans to hire external generator.

The Company further says government has allocated US$8.1 Million for the procurement of critical spare parts to rehabilitate non- functional units, with the targeted return to service of the generators by December 2026.

EGENCO has also challenged the reported MK32.3 Billion monthly operating cost, saying the figure is based on assumptions that use retail pump fuel prices instead of wholesale prices applicable to power generation, as well as unrealistic assumptions about continuous generator operation and fuel consumption.

The company says the public should therefore disregard the reported figure and rely on verified information regarding the operation and rehabilitation of its diesel generators.
