NAMADINGO ANNOUNCES PLANS TO BUILD HOSPITAL IN NORTHERN MALAWI

Popular Malawian musician Namadingo has announce plans to construct a new hospital in the remote Chitipa District.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Namadingo declared: "I have Decided to construct a hospital on the Chitipa-Nthalire stretch."

Namadingo said his motivation comes directly from the success of his previous community project. "[I am] driven & inspired by what we have been able to do at Wataka Primary School in Maching he wrote.

The successful renovation and support provided to Wataka Primary School in Machinga has given him confidence to tackle larger projects nationwide."I now believe we can do more all over Malawi," his statement concluded.

Many Malawians know Namadingo for his music and his hands-on approach to community development. His work at Wataka Primary School involved direct involvement in renovations and resource provision. His followers will be watching closely for further details on the hospital project.

A GLOBAL LEADER IN SWEET POTATO PRODUCTION

Malawi is the world's second-largest Sweet potato producer, with 7,449,972 tonnes, and first in acreage(2,197,319).The country produces an average of 8 Million MTs annually.

Malawi proudly holds the position of the second-largest sweet potato producer in the world, following China. In 2022, the country achieved a remarkable production volume of 8.05 million metric tonnes, surpassing other major producers like Tanzania and Nigeria  .

Two leading media watchdog groups in Malawi have called on the state-owned Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) to guarantee balanced and impartial reporting during the upcoming election period.

MISA Malawi and the Media Council of Malawi (MCM) held talks with MBC leadership on Thursday, emphasizing the broadcaster's legal duty under the Communications Act of 2016 to inform the public "fairly, equitably, and transparently" on electoral matters.  

The media bodies stressed that MBC as the publicly funded national broadcaster must regain public trust by ensuring all news and programs provide equal opportunities for diverse political voices. They specifically urged MBC to feature balanced political commentary across its opinion shows and recommended that the Director General refrain from participating in such programs to safeguard the broadcaster’s neutrality on contentious issues like elections.

"Balance and fairness are non-negotiable," the groups asserted, highlighting that MBC’s coverage must create "a level playing field" for political discourse.  

In response, MBC leadership committed to fair election coverage and announced concrete steps: new programs allowing all political parties to present their agendas, and the deployment of recently hired district reporters to broaden election reporting nationwide. However, MBC also raised significant concerns. The corporation reported "politically motivated attacks" on its journalists and called on MISA and MCM to strengthen efforts to protect its staff.

MBC further expressed frustration that some news sources deliberately exclude its reporters when seeking diverse perspectives, potentially undermining its mandate.  

This meeting forms part of a broader push by MISA Malawi and MCM to engage all Malawian media houses ahead of elections, emphasizing professionalism and impartiality. The outcome is critical for Malawi’s democracy, as MBC’s reach and influence make its adherence to fair reporting standards vital for an informed electorate.Both watchdog groups pledged continued monitoring of all media throughout the electoral.

Zambia Reaffirms Commitment to Bury Late President Lungu at Home After South African Condolence Visit

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema today received a courtesy call from South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr. Ronald Lamola, during which condolences were formally conveyed and Zambia's firm stance on burying former President Edgar Lungu on home soil was reaffirmed.This attributed on HE.Hichilemas Facebook page.

Minister Lamola visited State House in Lusaka, representing South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and the people of South Africa. He delivered heartfelt condolences following the passing of Zambia's Sixth Republican President, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who died last week.

President Hichilema's office stated that the leaders held a "meaningful and respectful discussion" focused on the burial arrangements for the late President. During this discussion, President Hichilema firmly reaffirmed Zambia's position that former President Lungu "should be laid to rest in his homeland, the Republic of Zambia."

The President also expressed Zambia's "sincere gratitude" to President Ramaphosa and South Africa for the care provided to Mr. Lungu during his period of illness prior to his passing in South Africa.

Furthermore, President Hichilema extended an official apology to the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) regarding logistical issues encountered during the repatriation of the late President's remains on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025. The statement described these issues as "unexpected challenges."

The visit underscores the diplomatic ties between Zambia and South Africa during a period of mourning for Zambia, while clearly stating the current government's commitment to holding former President Lungu's funeral within Zambia.

Iran vows consequences after Trump-ordered attacks; Pakistan warns of regional escalation, urges diplomacy.

Pakistan strongly condemnsthe US bombing of Iran's nuclear sites on Sunday.

Pakistan says the US attacks broke international law and supports Iran's right to defend itself.

In a dramatic escalation of the Iran-Israel conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump announced late Sunday that American warplanes carried out precision strikes against three major Iranian nuclear facilities, demanding Tehran "make peace" or face further attacks.

The targeted sites were the heavily fortified Fordo uranium enrichment plant deep inside a mountainside, the Natanz enrichment facility, and a site in Isfahan. President Trump declared the strikes a significant success in a televised address.

"Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight was the most difficult of them all by far, and perhaps the most lethal," Trump stated. "But if peace doesn’t come quickly we will go to those other targets with precision, speed and skill." He asserted that the "nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated."

The Fordo site, buried an estimated 80-90 meters underground, presented a unique challenge. U.S. officials confirmed to CBS News that the operation employed GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) "bunker buster" bombs, believed to be the only munitions globally capable of potentially reaching such depths. Reports indicated two bombs were used at each site.

Iranian officials swiftly downplayed the impact. Hassan Abedini, an official with Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, claimed the targeted facilities had been evacuated "a while ago" and essential materials removed. "We didn't suffer a major blow because the materials had already been taken out," Abedini stated.

Independent verification of the damage remains unavailable. Former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Mark Kimmitt expressed skepticism about the long-term impact to the BBC, saying, "There’s no way to suggest that it has been destroyed for all time." The extent of structural damage and whether there were any casualties is currently unclear.

The U.S. strikes mark a direct and highly significant intervention by Washington into the ongoing hostilities between Iran and Israel, dramatically raising the stakes and intensifying global concerns over regional stability. The world now awaits Iran's formal response and watches to see if this action will force negotiations or trigger a wider conflict.
